What is Oz Lotto?

Oz Lotto is Australia's national Tuesday night lottery, launched in February 1994 as the country's first fully nationwide lottery game. Operated under The Lott brand across all states and territories, it gives Australians a chance to win life-changing jackpots every week without exception.

The game uses a 7/47 format — players pick 7 numbers from 1 to 47. In each draw, 10 balls are selected (7 main + 3 supplementary). With a guaranteed minimum Division 1 prize pool of $4 million every Tuesday and a record jackpot history exceeding $111 million, Oz Lotto remains one of Australia's most trusted lotteries.

💡 Did You Know? Oz Lotto made history in November 2012 when four winners shared a record Division 1 pool of $111,972,151 — one of the biggest lottery prizes ever awarded in Australia!

How to Play Oz Lotto — Step by Step
1

Choose Your 7 Numbers

Select any 7 numbers from 1 to 47. Use your favourite numbers with a Marked Entry, or let the system pick randomly for you using QuickPick.

2

Select Your Entry Type

Standard entries cost $1.50 per game. System entries (8–20 numbers) give more combinations for better coverage across multiple divisions.

3

Choose How Many Draws

Enter a single Tuesday draw or purchase multiple draw entries in advance. Available online, in The Lott app, or at any authorised retailer nationwide.

4

Watch the Tuesday Night Draw

Tune in to 7TWO or Channel 7 at approximately 8:30pm AEST. Entries close at 7:30pm AEST. The draw is also livestreamed on The Lott website and app.

5

Claim Your Prize

Match 3 main numbers + 1 supplementary or better to win. Online prizes are deposited automatically. In-store prizes up to $750 can be claimed at any lottery retailer; larger prizes require a lottery office visit.

💰 System Entries Tip: A System 10 entry covers all possible 7-number combinations from your 10 chosen numbers. If all 7 winning numbers are among your 10, you win Division 1 AND over 100 prizes in lower divisions simultaneously!

Understanding Supplementary Numbers

In every Oz Lotto draw, 10 balls are drawn in total from a barrel of 47:

  • The first 7 balls are the main winning numbers
  • The next 3 balls are supplementary numbers, drawn from the remaining 40 balls

Supplementary numbers apply to Divisions 2, 4, and 7 only. They do not affect Division 1 — you must match all 7 main numbers for the jackpot. They act as bonus balls that boost your prize potential in lower divisions.

💡 Example: If you match 6 main numbers AND one supplementary number, you win Division 2 (much larger payout) instead of Division 3 (6 main only). Supplementaries can dramatically increase your winnings!

Historical Changes & Milestones
February 1994 — National Launch
Oz Lotto launched as Australia's first fully national lottery game, originally using a 6/45 format identical to Saturday Lotto. It was groundbreaking as NSW joined for the first time.
October 2005 — 7th Number Added
A seventh main number was added, changing the format to 7/45 and substantially increasing Division 1 odds. This created larger jackpots and bigger prize pools. Branded as "Super 7's Oz Lotto" in some states.
November 2012 — All-Time Record Jackpot
Four winning tickets shared a Division 1 pool of $111,972,151 — Australia's largest Oz Lotto jackpot ever. One of the syndicates had 80 members who each received $349,913. Tickets were sold in Victoria, NSW, and Queensland.
May 2022 — Current Format (7/47)
The matrix was updated from 7/45 to 7/47, a third supplementary number was added, and the guaranteed minimum jackpot was raised to $4 million. These changes created more winners across all divisions.
